Finally! He laughs so often, but Murphy's Law, he always clams up once the camera comes out. (actually, he usually gets distracted by the little green blinking light on the camera...). This is actually the extent of his laugh (so far anyway) it's little more than a grunt!! So cute!

Out of Control
Once again, I'm procrastinating. It wouldn't be so bad if I actually knew what to study and how much studying I had to do. The only thing I can think of to do is re-read the texts to make sure I know them. But I have no chance whatsoever of being able to finish one of the texts today, never mind 4 of them. I am such a horribly slow reader. I went over one of the books last night by reading the first and last page of every chapter. That alone still took me 3 hours. (Yes, I know, sad).
I have to say though, I've never given up this much this easily. But then again, I've never had the other issues to deal with at the same time either.
Speaking of which, it finally got through to Daddy that this job hunting might take a while and that, unfortunately, it's not worth waiting to see if we hear from someone in Q before we look around some more. The whole job hunt/interviewing/hiring process takes too long now to be able to wait before he applies elsewhere. So he's currently out pounding the pavement here in Prince.
I'm so torn between whether I think that's a good thing or not. My initial reaction is to get upset because I wanted to go back home, but then I think of all the things we have here and the people we've met and the thought of putting the house on the market and leaving makes me upset as well. But I suppose that's the way it goes, there's going to be a good and bad to every senario. But what I'm trying to figure out is what is more important and which place would be the best. I really want to go back home to be with family, and family is so important. But at the same time we're still really close here, we have way more options for everything here, and the economy might be a bit more stable here than in Q. We keep saying it would be easier to struggle there with family around us, but would it really?
But now, I suppose, we've left it out of our hands. The most important thing being to get a job. So wherever that opportunity comes from is where we will go. I hate that... I want to be able to control my life just a little bit thankyouverymuch.

Procrastinating
Today my whole day was spent at the Lifesaver's First Aid Training Center renewing my emergency child care certificate. It's amazing how much they can change in 3 years. They managed to make it a little easier to remember though (which is great, because how many of us end up panicking when there's an emergency situation which on top of that we're supposed to remember a certain number of these, a certain number of those, a specific number of repetitions all in a specified number of minutes....) Now it's just 2 breaths, 30 compressions for 5 reps, for everyone from baby to adult. And apparently I should stick to the multiple choice-type exams over the essay variety as I aced the childsafe one, but failure looms on the horizon for monday's exam.
But anyway, I came home to learn that LF discovered his tongue today. Daddy said he hadn't stopped 'playing' with it and sticking it out all day. He was even still doing it all evening once I was home. It would even distract him from his evening fussiness at times! Such a cutie!
LH is getting away with things lately... but who can say no to "Can I watch a movie.... just a little bit?" and two little fingers held right infront of her nose about a centimeter apart!!?? Everything's 'just a little bit' now.
I missed her so much after being at the CPR thing all day that I came home and grabbed the (much overdue) movie and brought her with me for the couple of other errands I had to do. So she led me around the grocery store, pulling one of the wheeled baskets behind her and helped me pick out the couple of groceries we needed. She even passed me every item from the basket so I could place it on the counter!
Well, I guess I should quit procrastinating and go study for that dumb exam.

When Then Is
So, one exam down, one more to go. Only one more time to embarass myself before I can run away with my tail between my legs. Let's just hope I actually pass the courses. It may take something of a miracle though.
LF's getting more and more active every day. It's so much fun to watch him discover things. Hopefully he'll be more active than LF was and get things interesting soon! Though I'll probably regret wishing that too, he'll probably be into everything! But it's so much fun to see him figure out his hands and grab onto things. He thinks his own feet are hilarious but hasn't figured out to grab for them yet, I have to show them to him. And we discovered today that he likes stuffies, little ones that he can hold and chew. There's a little turtle with long legs that he particularly likes because he can hold the legs easy.
So Daddy goes to Quesnel tomorrow to pound the pavement. I can't wait till this is the same day next year so that we can look back and wonder how we did it. But at the same time I don't wish it would go fast because I still want to enjoy my kids growing and savour these moments. They're growing so fast.
But regardless, here's to fate that Daddy will have a good day and that it will lead to something. Hopefully sooner rather than later, I really don't want to do this much longer! It's worse than the final month of pregnancy. At least you have a relative end date then, but not so much for this. I suppose we could calculate when the money and available credit will run out...but it would probably be such a short amount of time that facing the reality would end up giving us panic attacks. It's probably better pretending we'll find something before we have to find out when then is.

At Play
The kids were in a pretty playful mood today. We went down to the Power Play group this morning, mostly so I could get LF weighed again. I wanted to make sure he was making up for the bit of weight he lost while he was sick. He's gained almost a whole pound in a week! Last week we weighed him and he was 13lbs even, this week he is 13lbs 13oz. So I think it's safe to say he's going to catch up! We also discovered at Power Play that LF finds the crazy moving toys amusing. They had one of those little push-button top-like things that has balls inside it and when you push the button they whirl and pop around inside it. He thought that was the greatest thing. I put him down on his tummy and just kept the balls moving. That's the longest I've ever seen tummy time go!
We got back to the house and I got the kids fed and put to sleep andDaddy decided to take the quiet time to go downtown and do some running around and shopping... 3 hours later I got my Little Helper to phone him and ask where he was. She thought that was pretty amusing, and apparently is going to be the typical phone-crazy teenage girl. She 'talked' to him for 1/2 an hour! Mostly just babbling and singing but there were a few stories and coherent answers to his questions in there. At one point, after a lull in the conversation, Trev asked her, "So what are you doing" to which she answered, "I talkin to you on the phone!" (Like, get with the program Daddy!)
I love my kids so much!

Attempting Optimism
Well, a nice, quite, uneventful day at home today. It was nice. Nothing else went wrong.
Today. Tomorrow remains to be seen. (and no, I'm not truly being that pessimistic about it! lol.)
I can't believe how much my little girl is growing up on me though. She's using sentences...full, complete sentences! Even with all the "a's", "the's" and proper "me's" and "I's". And she's starting to form her own deductions, conclusions and ideas. It's crazy. Sometimes it's just so beautifully random too! We were at R and H's for dinner today (delicious by the way!) and she actually passed the idea by me of asking H if she could watch one of her movies! (They have cable!!) It was so cute! I wish I had great way of showing her how proud I am of her and how much I appreciate her thoughtfullness already, and she's only 2!!
So I found a wicked recipe for a Christmas-y dessert:
Irish Chocolate Mint Dessert
Ingredients:
1-1/2 cups (3 sticks)plus 6 tablespoons butter or margarine, divided
2 cups granulated sugar
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
4 eggs
3/4 cup HERSHEY'S Cocoa
1 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
2-2/3 cups powdered sugar
1 tablespoon plus 1 teaspoon water
1 teaspoon mint extract
4 drops green food color
1 cup HERSHEY'S SPECIAL DARK Chocolate Chips or HERSHEY'S Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chips
Directions:1. Heat oven to 350°F. Grease 13x9x2-inch baking pan.2. Place 1 cup (2 sticks) butter in large microwave-safe bowl. Microwave at MEDIUM (50%) 2 minutes or until melted. Stir in granulated sugar and vanilla. Add eggs; beat well. Add cocoa, flour and baking powder; beat until well blended. Pour batter into prepared pan.3. Bake 30 to 35 minutes or until wooden pick inserted in centers comes out clean. Cool completely on wire rack. 4. Prepare Mint Cream Center by combining powdered sugar, 1/2 cup (1 stick) butter, water, mint extract and food color. Beat until smooth. Divide and spread evenly on brownies. Cover; refrigerate until cold.5. Prepare Chocolate Glaze by placing remaining 6 tablespoons butter and chocolate chips in small microwave-safe bowl. Microwave at MEDIUM (50%) 1 minute or until mixture is smooth when stirred. Cool slightly; pour over chilled dessert. Cover; refrigerate at least 1 hour before serving. 24 servings.

The Options
So we're trying to figure out what exactly our options are right now and trying to determine which is the best path to take. But all we're discovering is that it's practically impossible to make a 'good' decision. We simply have to make what we feel is the best decision and try to be happy with it. No situation can be perfect, nor, I suppose, can it be all bad. Which leads to the idea of returning to Quesnel. We miss our families and when it comes down to it struggling would be that much easier with some family support. But still, nothing (obviously) is set in stone. Daddy has to find a job, that is the most important thing, and we can't be all that picky about where right now.
That being said, I suppose I'm already assuming that we will move. And at the same time I can't fathom the idea. I've been living in this strange world of denial (I guess) lately. But then I sit down and notice something I really like about this house and think of what it will be like to leave it behind. Never mind trying to sell it on this crappy market.
Anyway, otherwise we had a good day! We did family photos today and the kids were awesome. I was totally prepared to be a little disappointed (I mean, come on, the chances of getting a 2 year old and a 3 month old to smile at the same time??) But they did really well! LH wasn't shy at all (though I have to credit the photographer! She was great!) and we actually got LF to smile from a distance so that we weren't in the picture! We got the cutest one of just him, on his tummy even, which usually he doesn't like, or at least won't do for long. But he held out like a trooper! I'm really happy with the clothing choices too, as I got everyone done up in jeans and white shirts and it looked really good.
Then I tried to get LF through the evening without his little power nap. He's been waking up religiously around 4 or 5 in the morning lately and I'd like to get rid of that! Especially because it's not just a return of the suckie anymore. He's been up for the better part of an hour for a while now. And seeing as the routine I was trying to follow from "The Sleep Solution" didn't recommend that power nap I figured I'd better try to get him through the evening. Poor guy passed out on his daddy at about 6:00 though!! I only gave him about 10-15 minutes this time though, when he usually gets closer to 1/2 an hour. So... we'll see how the night goes!!
