Here We Go Again...

Dear Daddy (again...): Day One

So Daddy is off on another grand school adventure again, leaving us poor souls in the rain drenched tide of spring up north. The kids were pretty sad to see him go, as was I. It seems we all haven't had enough of each other lately. It's been busy.
We had an inside day today, as it was only fit for a duck outside. Being Monday and a new theme week for the daycare however, we were highly entertained despite the confines. There was clothesline, fancy new dusters, mops, brooms and scrubbers as well as a new sensory bin: soapy water! So needless to say, the playroom is now technically 'clean'... but messy. And a little soggy.
But I'm pretty sure at least 75% of our playtime today was spent elbow deep in bubbles.
We also had a new addition to daycare today, our funloving Cousin Squirty. He was probably the source of the rest of the entertainment! :)

And, as requested by the lovely Little Helper I am publishing her debut:

Once upon a time there was a handsome prince and a beautiful princess named Little Helper. The prince's name was Daddy and one day Little Helper was going to somebody's wedding and then Prince Daddy came too. And then when the wedding was done Princess LH and Prince Daddy were going to go gett a puppy and then Prince Daddy and Princess LH were playing at the beach with their new puppy named Marca. And then they went to go see Princess LH's sick Grandma. Prince Daddy was going to his old Papa who was very very sick so he brougth hima cute pet that would make him better. And then when they got out of their Grandma and Grandpa's house they saw a big somthing that was behind a tree. So they went to the woods and sam a big wolf. So they went to get the woodsmen. And then when Princess LH and Prince Daddy were walking down the path they saw a house getting built and went to see who was living there. They saw a girl playing with their puppy. They went to get it but the girl said "Wait! That's my puppy!" and she was right because her puppy had a red collar not a blue one. So they went to search for their puppy and then they saw a big shape in a costume that looked like a big puppy. They took the suit off it and it was their puppy!

Oh, and I got flack for that because she actually 'wrote' it yesterday and I forgot to put it up last night for you! Hope you enjoyed! Love you so much Daddy and we miss you!

Kindergartener Conversations

The Cute Conversations of My Little Helper (LH):

May 2011 - LH's first soccer practice was a bit unorganized and we showed up to empty soccer fields... to which I was a little nervous about. However we were soon informed that they were taking the practice indoors for the little ones as it was still pretty chilly out. When LH heard the news she promptly stated: "Phew. Now I don't have to freeze my knickers off."

10/09/2010 - While explaining the differences between a butter knife and a steak knife at the dinner table:

Daddy: "A steak knife cuts steak because it's sharp. Really sharp."

LH: "Like Mom's thing she used to cut her fur."

(Yes, like that thing. And yes, she recently had a well learned lesson with Mom's RAZOR!)

Preschooler Prattle

The Prattle of My Little Fire (LF)

05/23/11 - In case you didn't think a 4 year old saying it wasn't funny enough, how about LF at 2 as we're walking into the grocery store....

Mom: "LH, you should have worn your jacket like I said, it's still chilly out."

LF: "I wore my jacket, I won't freeze my kickers off!"

I've GOT to stop saying that!

08/04/10 - LF never has been a great vehicle passenger, but his latest demand is: "Chickefrie"

The girls and I love Zac Brown, what can I say!!??

06/03/10 - I've come to the conclusion that we've been 'letting loose' a little too often lately (I'm blaming the swiftly approaching wedding!) My theory is supported by three important points:

ONE - our bank account has these little red numbers in it way too often lately...

TWO - my recycling cupboard has no room left in it for other types of recycling due to the overflow of beer and wine bottles...

and the event that made the ultimate decision for me:

THREE - while playing with her friends this morning LH was 'driving' on the couch and telling her friends that they were on their way to the 'licorice' store....

03/17/10 - A new word for the english dictionary courtesy of LH:

"yestersmorning"

01/15/10 - While visiting with Aunty N, LH and LF are checking out the recent pictures Aunty has taken with her camera. LF keeps trying to point out the "puppa" (puppy) in one of the photos, touching the screen with his fingers. So Mommy tells him, "LF, no touching with your fingers, only looking with your eyes."

Next thing we know LF is leaning in, looking at the picture with his eyes, close enough that his nose touches the screen.

01/15/10 - As LH's lying on the floor playing LF toddles over and proceeds to stradle and sit on her. After they babble back and forth for a bit LF lies down on her and gives her a big hug. Grandma G sees the sweet exchange and says "Aw, hugs!" To which LH labourously replies, "No, it's squooshes!"

I suppose she was the one on the bottom!

01/06/10 - Snuggled up on the couch while sick LH was constantly running back and forth to the bathroom throughout quiet time. Finally she taps me on the shoulder and with an exasperated sigh says "Mommy, wiping boogers is too much work."

12/16/09 - While waiting patiently to meet Grandma and Aunt F for lunch at the coffee shop, a kind elder lady pops over to our table as she's waiting for her husband to get ready to leave. She comments on how well behaved the kids are and talks them up about Santa, Christmas, their food etc. When her husband is ready they say their goodbyes and by then LH is playing 'shy'. She doesn't wave or anything as they leave. Then, just as their going out the door and I'm telling her that she should have said goodbye, she turns to them and sticks out her tongue! So much for the 'well behaved' comment. All I can hope is that they hadn't looked back to see it!

12/14/09 - With the bedtime routine compeleted and LH tucked into her bed in the spare room at Grandma and Papa's house she makes one last plea for entertainment and asks Mommy: "Can I have lots of stuffies?" To which Mommy explains that the three regular occupants that share her bed are quite enough. Mommy moves on and it's Daddy's turn for hugs and kisses. LH continues her plea to Daddy: "Daddy, my stuffies need something to snuggle, can my stuffies have stuffies?"

Nice try kid.

09/23/09 - Grandma H (happy birthday!) came to visit us today. After our visit Grandma asked LH if she would give Daddy a hug and a kiss for her when he got home from work. Her answer was "Sure Grandma!" So after Daddy gets home from work I remember the instructions and prompt LH as follows:

Mommy: "Hey LH! Come here for a second!"

LH: (runs over) "What Mommy?"

Mommy: "Remember what Grandma asked you to give Daddy?"

LH: (thinking...) "A wet willie??"

08/21/09 - While reading a story:

Daddy: "What does a mouse say?"

LH: "Squeak, squeak"

Daddy: "What does a wolf say?"

LH: "I'll huff and I'll puff and I'll blow..."

02/27/09 - Daddy was trying to use LH as his own portable memory and got her to remember that she needed to get eggs on thier trip to the grocery store. The two of them walk into the store, amid the lovely Easter display, and LH exclaims, "There's the eggs Dad!!!" Needless to say, she had a Cadbury cream egg for dessert...

02/24/09 - At the grocery store, as she's singing and playing up and down the aisle a stranger comments: "Oh! You're such a cutie!" To which LH replies, "NO! I NOT a cutie!" stomp, stomp down the aisle, then whips back around with a glare, "I a girwl!" (THANKS Papa!!)

02/09 - From the movie Aladdin we play a game where we give her a big kiss, cough then say "ooh, hairball!" One night at bedtime she gives daddy a big kiss then says: "ooh, soccerball!"

Mommy: "Hey!"

LH: "Hay is for horses!"

(smart-ass)

01/09 - Movie copycatting:

When answering mommy: "Yes, your majesty."

Addressing her toys: "Ladies and Gentlemen"

01/09 - After a bit of whining and whimpering as she's about to say her night time prayers, Daddy asks "what's wrong?" to which LH answers, "I got a wedgie in my sock!"

01/07/09 - Mommy: "What do you want for dinner?" LH: "I on a diet!"

12/30/08 - "Mommy! There's a helicocter in my room!" So we go check it out, and it turns out the washing machine is on the spin cycle in the bathroom next to her room, and does indeed sound like a 'helicocter'!
