Here I was, all organized with all my lists checked twice and everything packed up and ready to go by 7:30am! 7:30!! So we hit up Timmy's and the gas station and we're on our way to a little lake just a ways north of our place. T and H were out the day before and we'd gotten a really crackling cut-off phone call that said it was an easy, fairly short drive. I'd mapped the route on google and was ready to go!
I followed that route for 3 hours. Read that, THREE H-O-U-R-S!!! About an hour into the drive I had pretty much figured I was lost, assuming that google maps hadn't been updated recently and was sending me the back way, so I kept going hoping I'd end up where I was supposed to be EVENTUALLY... but then the van started making some precious noises. So... like the woman I am... I called the men. R's cell was still having service issues so communication with him was iffy, but I did manage to get a hold of Daddy, but only if I was wandering around outside the van searching for that perfect spot in the largest hordes of bug gatherings I've ever seen. So Daddy begs off work to come rescue me and see if we can baby the van home or if we should tow it or what. I'm determined not to be stuck out in this darn bush any longer so I start inching my way back home. In the meantime Lil' F started acting up (can you blame him?) so I pulled him out of the seat and he steered the van for a while. That was pretty thrilling.
So, of course, by the time Daddy finds me the van has stopped making it's protests (of course, true to form when I call in reinforcements for my car troubles) and I've also managed to text R, so he shows up as well. So we send Daddy back to work and I ride R's bumper to the campsite....10 minutes down the MAIN road from where I'd ventured off into the great unknown.
(Can I scream now??)
Other than that we had a great camping trip, Lil F's first! I managed to christen him in the lake for the occasion as well. (whoops.) He wasn't too upset about it though, he seems to really like the water. We took them out on a big air mattress to float around the lake a little, LH had her floaty suit on and I had a death grip on LF's foot as he lay over the side of the mattress and splashed in the water (like I said the kid loves the water! It was cold!) So... do I really need to point out the obvious? Lil' H fell in. Daddy went in after her to pull her back to the mattress cuz she's screaming (admittedly not too bad though) but as he's trying to pull her back I don't think she realized that he had a hold of her and she starts screaming "help! help!" So Daddy tells her, "It's okay, I've got you." To which she calmly replies, "Oh." Then she stops screaming and relaxes while we finish pulling her back onto the mattress. That was it! I figured we'd have a hysterical, devastated-for-life child on our hands after being dunked in a freezing cold lake when she'd never been in water that deep before and all she proceeds to do is complain a little that she's cold. This from the same kid that has a melt-down if she sees her own blood.
Oh.. ha ha... and Daddy got really toasted on 'limey grins' and puked his guts out next door to the outhouse...
We had a great weekend!! :)
